I broke out after hair removal. Should I try it again?

You got your eyebrows, lip, or even full face waxed or sugared and you broke out in what looks like tiny pimples. What happened, and should you try it again?

This is a common problem, and there is actually often a fairly simple fix, so the short answer is yes, you should try it again!

What causes this to happen?

When hair is removed from the root you bring the oil and bacteria to the surface of the skin. This, along with open pores after extracting the hair can make the skin more prone to this kind of "breakout". This is a form of irritant dermatitis or could be an allergic contact dermatitis.

Can I prevent this?

An ice pack on your lip after hair removal might be helpful, as well as an over the counter hydrocortisone ointment used twice a day.

If your skin is very prone to an allergic reaction or breakout in general for sugaring I do recommend waiting 24 hours before you wear makeup, or for larger areas avoid sweating and keep the area dry and clean. Antiseptic towelettes are a great option!

To prevent this altogether I often use high frequency post-treatment which kills bacteria and reduces inflammation, hence acne-fighting benefits! High-frequency also increases circulation to stimulate collagen, making the treatment an effective anti-aging and glow-boosting tool, too. There are contraindications for this treatment though because of the electric current. (Don't let that freak you out! You don't feel anything.) They are of if you have heart problems, metal in your body, or are pregnant.

If that doesn't fix the problem, I add on Hungarian Mud which has tons of mineral properties and draws out impurities in the skin. Almost every facial "breakout" from hair removal can be cured by these two treatments! If you have broken out on your face from hair removal, ask me about these treatment options at your next visit and you might just be able to have a successful, breakout free hair removal experience in the near future!

To happy, healthy skin!
